IF you have ever flagged down a Kiama Taxi chances are youve dealt with one of the best in the business.
Despite once gaining a reputation as the woman who unwittingly ferried crooks out of town, Kerri Robinson is one of three drivers nominated for the 2006 NSW Taxi council country taxi driver of the year award.
There are a lot of taxi drivers in NSW so it comes as a surprise to get chosen thats for sure, said Kerri.
After 22 years as a taxi driver, Kerri said she still enjoys the job, however she laughingly admits that some days driving taxis are far more memorable than others.
I remember the time I took the two fellas that robbed the State Bank out of town and then I couldnt describe them to the police, she laughed.
Then I took the fella who robbed the print shop out of town and couldnt describe him to police either. My youngest daughter reckons if you want to commit a crime in town all you have to do is get the blind taxi driver to take you out of town.
Kiama is a great place to work though. It is not too stressful and it is a nice place to be driving around. I dont have plans to retire any time soon, unless I win Lotto of course.
