Berry-Shoalhaven Heads Magpies won a hard fought local derby 22-16 over rivals the Nowra Warriors at the Nowra Showground yesterday.
The Magpies trailed 12-2 midway through the first half after a double to Warriors fullback Glenn McCallum, the second a spectacular 70 metre individual effort.
However Berry struck back through second-rower John Walker and replacement Tim Gallagher to level the scores at 12-all at half time.
Berry went ahead in the second half when Tim Gallagher was the recipient of a freakish bounce to cross for his second, while their lead was extended minutes later through Lloyd Williamson who finished off a break by centre Daniel Struber. Sam Burns converted to make the scores 22-12.
Berry dominated field position in the second half, but the Warriors got themselves back in the game with 15 to go thanks to a runaway try by winger Elliott Stewart, however the Berry defence was good enough to hold on in the dying stages.
Best for the Magpies was Rhys Sharpe, Michael Walker and Daniel Struber, while Leigh Ardler and Bill Brown tried hard for the Warriors.
