KIAMA residents Ian and Barbara Heggie are celebrating this week after the safe return of their beloved cat, Beasley.
Beasley disappeared on Saturday, June 6, between 10am and 11am after he was let out for his regular morning run.
“We always let him out in the morning for an hour or so and he has a wander, but he always usually comes back in,” Mr Heggie said.
“We started feeding him dog biscuits as he had a gum infection and he loves them, so we kept feeding them to him after his walk so he always wants to come home to eat them.”
Beasley was found last Friday underneath a neighbour’s house.
“Barb was walking down near the creek and was yelling out his name and she heard a little cry,” Mr Heggie said.
“As the she kept calling out his name, the cries got louder.”
The pair knew the owners of the house were holidaying in the Cook Islands and luckily they managed to get Beasley out.
“They’re away for a fortnight, so if we hadn’t got him out he would have been stuck under there,” Mr Heggie said.
Beasley has been part of the Heggie family for nearly eight years. “He’s very well-known in the area and everyone who meets him adores him,” Mr Heggie said.
The pair was very happy to get him back.
“The first thing he did was lick Barbara’s face with kisses,” Mr Heggie said. “We’re delighted to have him back.”
