Kiama Netball resumed on Saturday after a two-week layoff during the school holidays.
Modifieds kicked off the day with Werri Beach taking on Berry. Jemma Robertson got off to a great start, as her passing and defending in the first quarter was superb.
Megan Hunt was another to shine for Werri and managed to score a goal to put her team on the scoreboard.
In the Kangaroo division, Kiama Downs started well with first-time player Lara Nelson playing a great game in defence.
Werri Beach was strong in attack with great play from wind attack Grace Phillips.
Goalkeeper Harper Martin and goal defence Emily Tomkins defended well and the Werri attack, led by centre Rhiannon Thomson, kept up the pace of the game.
Beachettes turned on a spirited display; Charlotte Lourey scored her first goal and Ally Williams had a strong game.
Maya Broadby had a solid game and Elli Burgess passed well.
In the 10 years, Werri Beach faced Kiama Central in a hard-fought tussle.
Werri’s Millie Mansfield and Rhya Cairns pulled off some great defence and Maeve Svinos was equally as good at the other end of the court.
Olivia Parker scored seven goals to help Werris to 7-3 win, their first of 2008.
A depleted Gerringong lost to Kiama Downs 7-nil.
Ebony Dobson did well at centre and Pariss Williams and Jade Cowgill worked together in attack. Samantha McGillivray and Amy Prytherch did likewise in defence.
Beachettes and Gainsborough played a hard fought, nailbiting 4-all draw.
In the junior division, Gainsborough defeated Beachettes 6-4 for their first win of 2008.
Zara Davies had a great game in the centre and Kate Rogers was dominant in defence for Gainsborough.
Meanwhile, Gainsborough A overcame a spirited challenge from Kiama Downs.
Goal attack Larni Cowgill showed great leadership and Isabelle Fredericks was outstanding at goal-shooter. Stef Varcoe and Belinda Bertram had good games for Gainsborough.
In the intermediate division, Gainsborough was too strong for Beachettes, who were missing two regulars. However, Erin Chard was a capable replacement.
Gainsborough’s Rhiannon Dawson and Rachel Gillespie were good in defence and good play from the mid-court and attackers ensured Gainsborough never headed.
In A grade, Kiama Central defeated Kiama Downs, 52 to 32. In the other three games, Beachettes 1 defeated Gainsborough 3 by 49 goals to 40. Gainsborough 2 defeated Gainsborough 1 by 37 goals to 31, and Kiama Central 2 defeated Gerringong 1 by 48 goals to 40.
In A reserve, Gerringong was no match for Kiama Central in a 44-19 loss. Dynamic work by Nicola and Kayleen King, coupled with robust defence from Phoebe Benny and Freya Jansens helped Central win.
