AUSTRALIA POST STANDS DOWN MAIL CONTRACTOR

THE Australian Post contractor handling the Gerroa mail contract has been stood down indefinitely following a number of complaints from local residents.
A number of Gerroa small business owners were left fuming after allegedly losing thousands of dollars worth of cheques in the mail. They claimed the local postal system was deteriorating to the point of collapse.
Local residents have been left fed up after putting up with receiving the wrong mail, no mail or extremely late mail for the past six weeks.
Currently launching an investigation into the matter, Australia Post NSW Communications Manager Elizabeth Rich said Australia Post was committed to addressing local concerns and alternative staff are now delivering the mail to Gerroa and will continue to do so until any delivery issues have been resolved.
It is understood the contractor will be fronting a meeting tomorrow to determine her future with the organisation.
We are currently further investigating that contract, she said.
Things perhaps havent been as running as smoothly as they should in Gerroa and that is what we are currently trying to find out.
Mrs Rich confirmed to the Kiama Independent that mail deliveries in Gerroa are made by an Australian Post contractor, saying the contractors were expected to uphold the stringent standards the organisation sets.
The number of official complaints to our customer service centre is not high, which is why we are urging anyone that has experienced concerns to contact our area manager on 4251 1404, she said.
We appreciate that this may be frustrating for anyone who has already raised their concerns previously, but this is the fastest way for us to rectify any remaining problems.
We are very sorry to any resident who has experienced irregularities with their local mail service, but trust that they will already have noticed an improvement.
In a piece of good news for Gerroa residents the broken down van featured on the front page of last weeks Kiama Independent has been removed by the mail contractor.
