CURVES Kiama is celebrating its move to new premises with a fashion show and auction on Saturday to support Kiama Rotary Club.

The event will primarily raise funds for the club’s Robert East Cancer Research Memorial Fund.

Curves manager Charmaine Wheatley said 10 brave local men had volunteered for a man auction for Saturday’s event, including the mayor’s husband, Jeff McCarthy.

“(Mayor) Sandra McCarthy will be officially opening the new premises in Kiama Surf Life Saving Club and her husband has volunteered to be auctioned off to give two hours of surf lessons,” Ms Wheatley said.

“At the last auction, the editor of the Kiama Independent raised the largest amount of money for his ‘services’, so ladies, come along again and see if anyone can better Mark Bransdon’s record!”

There will be a fashion parade modelled by Curves members, with all the gowns donated by ladies who have lost weight and could not fit them any more.

These dresses will be auctioned along with the men and other items, including cases of wine, a painting by John Cornwell, return airfares from Albion Park to Melbourne and accommodation packages.

“It could be great for a bride because we’ve got two wedding dresses and a set of three teal bridesmaid dresses and if someone puts in an offer on the wine they could have all their booze organised too,” Ms Wheatley said.

Jim Patterson from Kiama Rotary Club said the club was happy to have joined up with Curves for the event.

“It’s only $20 to get in so everyone should be able to turn up,” he said.

This event comes hot on the heels of news the Kiama gym was the highest fundraiser in the country from its Girls Night In last year.

“We were phoned and personally congratulated by the director of the Cancer Council and by the founder of Curves, Gary Heavin,” Ms Wheatley said.

The fashion show and auction start at 7pm on Saturday.

Tickets are $20 a person, including finger food and a glass of champagne, and are available from Kiama Newsagency, Travel Scene, Desire Lingerie or by phoning Rotary on 4232 2989 or Curves on 4233 2747.
