A CHARITY auction to celebrate Curves Gym’s move to Kiama surf club raised $6000 for Kiama Rotary Club.
Curves manager Charmaine Wheatley said six “brave” local men had volunteered for a man auction for the event, including the mayor’s husband, Jeff McCarthy, and Kiama Independent editor Mark Bransdon.
Mr McCarthy, a master surf coach, offered a two-hour surfing lesson and was “sold” for $200.
Mr Bransdon offered a half page advertisement in the Independent, which was bought by Ray White Kiama auctioneer and real estate agent Terry Dawson for $400.
Bidders also paid $250 for Member for Kiama Matt Brown (dinner for two at Parliament House), $200 for local identity Les Davies (10 hours’ gardening), $150 for Rotarian David Evans (jet ski lessons) and $150 for Leigh Miranda (one month membership at BeachBodz Gym).
A variety of fashions and wine “cellars” were also auctioned and buyers grabbed some great bargains.
The 120 people who turned up for the evening were also entertained with a fashion show by Desire Lingerie, in Collins Lane.
The $6000 will go towards Rotary’s health charities, including the Robert East Memorial Cancer fund.
