TWELVE Kiama Little Athletics competitors have qualified for the State Championships at Homebush on March 15 and 16.
The athletes qualified after the recent regional championships at Wellington – Kiama sent 22 members to the meet, with all impressing in their respective events.
Under 8s competitor Aron Cox shone in Wellington, winning four gold medals in as many events.
However, Aron’s campaign is over, as under 8s do not compete at State Championships.
Under 15s competitor Talissa Scott also won four gold medals from as many events; she will now turn her attention to state and hopefully national competition.
At Wellington, Hayden Moon finished second in the under 10 hurdles and 70m sprint to qualify for the State Championships, while Josh Vazzoler qualified in the shot put.
Under 11s competitor Mitchell Scott qualified for Homebush in the hurdles and triple jump.
In the girls, under 9 athlete Ella Harris won the 400m and 800m to qualify for Homebush.
Under 10 competitor Audrey Pring finished second in long jump and third in the 800m to make the regional team.
Kiama athletes finished first and second in the under 11s high jump, with Larni Cowgill and Erin Chard finishing first and second respectively.
Larni also qualified in the triple jump and Erin in the 400m.
Helena Lee finished third in the under 12 1500m while Kristen Nash booked her trip to Homebush with a great anchor leg in the junior girls relay final.
She will be joined by Ella Harris, Audrey Pring and Erin Chard in Kiama’s junior girls relay team for Homebush.
Samantha Broadhead will have a busy time at Homebush, where she will compete in the under 14s 800m, 1500m and 3000m.
Under 15 athlete Courtney Moon finished second in the 800m and 1500m.
