A SYDNEY-based artist is exhibiting her wire and paint artworks in the Old Fire Station for the second time this year.
Karen Tanner said she started drawing when she was eight years old and had been experimenting with different media since.
She was inspired to start using wire to enhance her drawings and paintings after doing a three-year sculpture course in the late 1980s.
“I experimented with different materials like limestone, soapstone and wire then I just thought I would start to use wire like I do with drawing as another medium,” she said.
He artworks also use inks, pastels and charcoal and she is now working with soldered wire to form two-dimensional relief creations.
Ms Tanner’s studio is in the rolling hills of Kurrajong, which is about 90 minutes from the Sydney CBD.
Her work has been exhibited at various galleries and art and craft shows in Sydney.
She has also been a regular exhibitor for the past seven years in the Agricultural Hall in Berry when the markets are held each month.
She said that during this time she had grown to love and be inspired by the South Coast.
Earlier this month she was involved with the Arcadian Artists open studio weekend, when nine artists’ studios on the outskirts of Sydney were opened to the public.
Ms Tanner’s artworks will be on display at the Old Fire station Gallery until next Monday, December 3.
