SHANE and Fiona Douglas are enlisting their customers in a battle to win the title of Australia’s Best Fish ’n’ Chip Shop for Sea Bream Café.

The winner of the nationwide competition, run by Crisco Oils through the Restaurant and Catering Association, will be chosen by voting online.

Mr Douglas said customers needed to collect a voting card with a unique code in order to be able to enter.

By voting in the competition, you can win prizes including fishing rods, cook books and Coles Myer vouchers.

You also go into the draw to win a four-day trip for two adults to Daydream Island in the Whitsundays.

However, the Sea Bream Café team is in it for the prestige of the title, Mr Douglas said.

“We’ve got a very strong base of local residents, but also tourists who come down to the caravan parks every holidays; they’re regulars too,” he said.

Mrs Douglas said they jumped at the chance to be involved in such a big competition.

“We truly believe we have the best fish and chips on offer in Australia and we want to prove it once and for all,” she said.

“We want to do Kiama proud and we need the community’s help to make the title our own.”

The Douglases pride themselves on always using quality products and cooking the food fresh every day.

Mr Douglas said the shop had been moving towards healthier alternatives lately and also sold fresh fish.

“We’ve got so many locals coming to this shop who like our food, so we must be doing something right,” he said. “We’re getting bigger, too, so we know maintaining the freshness and quality is seeing people come back.”
