A big future ahead for ‘ Little Ray Ray ‘

GERROA skateboarder Raymond Macken scored the biggest win of his young career when he took out the under 14s section of the Milo Cereal Junior X-Games at Five Dock on Sunday.

The 13-year-old won the NSW section of the nationwide competition on Saturday before snaring the big prize on Sunday.

Raymond, whose nickname is "Little Ray Ray', beat the best young skateboarders of his age group to take the coveted title.

Competitors were selected after events in mainland state capitals.

"I was stoked " that was probably the biggest thing I have done," Raymond said.

The year 7 Kiama High student has won other competitions in Queensland and Victoria and skated in the US.

"I want to take skating as far as I can " I want to be a professional," he said.

Raymond has already rubbed shoulders with his idol, US pro Ryan Sheckler, during a trip to the US in 2006.

"We skated at the same park but didn't talk," Raymond said.

Tomorrow (Thursday) the youngster will embark on a two-week trip to Bali to skate at Legian Beach and at Kuta's BASE skate park.

The gleaming facility, complete with hardwood floor, is a far cry from the street skating/bowl environment in which he won the X Games title.

Raymond recently won the open section of the Riverina titles, skating against the men and snaring more than $1000 in prizes.

He won the 16 and under division of the South Eastern Junior League Skateboarding Titles at Frankston in April.

In Despite having skated since he was seven, Raymond is yet to break a bone, his mother, Colleen Kerr said.

"Raymond started going to competitions, and winning them," she said.

"I thought I had better take him as far as he can go."
