PROGRESS on the fifth stage of the Blue Haven retirement village is proceeding at a rapid pace.
Construction work is currently focussed on the installation of roof trusses before the tiling begins in under a fortnight.
Heavy earthmoving equipment has been brought in to prepare for the construction of the sites main driveway and retaining walls.
Meanwhile the main building structure is complete, consuming a mammoth 7,500 cubic metres of concrete in the process.
More than 100 bricklayers, carpenters, plumbers and electricians enter the site each day to work from 6am Monday to Saturday turning over $1.3 million in labour and materials each month.
Grindley Construction site manager Mr Steve McInerney said the 88-unit project was on track for completion mid 2007, with the now familiar crane tower due to come down early in the new year.
Over half a million bricks have been used to secure the residential area and environmentalists will be pleased to hear that a 25metre retention tank has been installed beneath the car park.
The retention tank will capture storm water and will be reticulated into the toilet systems, which is becoming a fairly common practice in our projects, added Mr McInerney.
WHAT A SPECTACLE: The awesome view down into the architecturally designed atrium that will become the community lounge area.
